Mad Art Studios is the brainchild of Michael Maddy and Rina Fehrenson. Both native Californians, Michael got his artistic start through studying ceramics at California State University at Humbolt, and later studied glass at Palomar College in San Marcos, California. While there, he met Rina Fehrenson, who had completed her studies in Visual Arts at the University of California, San Diego. Rina has also studied at such well-known glass schools as such as the Pilchuck School in Seattle, WA; the Bildwerk School of Glass in Germany; and at the Haystack School of Crafts in Maine. Although both Michael and Rina started their artistic careers working in other mediums, glass has become the main focus of their artistic expression. They started Mad Art Studios specifically to create their playful and whimsical glass pieces.
