Barker, a former art instructor, has been a full-time artist and craftsman since 1972. He currently resides in Wellington, Kansas. His Skrypt pieces use all of the visual qualities of writing with no literary meaning. This abstract and highly intricate calligraphy is done with speed, boldness, and directness. His Incised, Carved, and Burnished pieces are the opposite of his Skrypt work: the carving is a slow and tedious process. All of Barker’s pieces are wheel thrown, reduction fired stoneware.
