Jeff, “JT” to most, has been a resident of Mitchell County all his life. He was born in 1957 in Beloit, KS. He grew up on the Vanier ranch between Beloit and Hunter, where his Dad and Grandfather managed the ranch. He started his own fencing business called Lone Wolf Fencing, as he builds it by himself. As the sole owner and employee, it requires him to work 7 days a week and as much as possible, leaving only early mornings and late nights for his drawing.
JT drew in school his freshman year of high school but didn’t do much after that. From 2005 to 2006, when both of his parents were put into hospice care, he found it was hard to sleep at night. That is when he picked up a pencil again to pass the time, so you could say he is a self-taught artist. He loves to draw the wildlife that he sees every day. After getting a senior picture in an invitation and drawing it, he decided he likes drawing portraits, often working up to 200 hours or more on them. An earlier fencing customer asked him to draw his late father and another customer wanted him to draw his parents on their wedding day. He found that the more he draws the more he enjoys it and after running heavy tools all day it’s nice to come home and lift a small pencil. When people ask why pencil, he likes to say to make the “mostest with the leastest,” as he has tried to do throughout his life. He hopes to continue teaching himself as he learns more with each drawing.
