Melanie Harvey lives in Lawrence, KS, and makes functional pottery with mid-fire porcelain. She is drawn to bright colors and modern simplistic forms. She is also a full-time chemistry professor at Johnson County Community College. She fell in love with clay while she was a graduate student at Vanderbilt University in Nashville taking a noncredit class in the evening with some friends. She loves throwing on a wheel and has found her chemistry background useful when approaching glazes. Melanie uses decals created from her drawn images to incorporate permanent, playful imagery to her pieces.
