"Mistakes and Progress: Heralds"
Mistakes and Progress is part of my new series of reduction relief prints exploring the hopes and despairs of animal conservation. This piece juxtaposes the rapid decline of the Scottish Wildcat with the decreases in pollution that has caused a reemergence of the white phase Peppered Moth. The limited nature of reduction also closely mirrors the fragile existence of the endangered species depicted in my work. For once the final print is pulled from the plate, the plate is discarded and cannot be reused. It is extinct.
