I enjoy creating functional ceramics, made to be used in day-to-day life. I strive to elevate simplistic forms and create a tactile experience, evident in the color of clay I throw with, to the finishes and glaze on each piece.
My background in ceramics is atypical; my first step into adulthood I was set on becoming a mechanical engineer, with my interests focused on space. After a combination of health issues and not wanting to spend the rest of my life behind a computer screen, I decided to quit engineering school. Feeling lost, and unsure of my next step in life, I found myself spending hours behind my pottery wheel. Throwing as a pastime morphed into something I saw as my future.
Today, my studio practices are in form and iteration, balancing the sliding scale of what works well in a practical sense and what looks aesthetically pleasing to the eye. I love throwing pots, that’s what started my ceramic career, and I hope that my joy is reflected when people look at my work.
Right now, I am furthering my education in ceramics with an apprenticeship with Spinning Earth Pottery, under Danny and Diana Meisinger.
