Folkloric is an ethereal jewelry collection handcrafted by maker Elena Carey. Pieces in the collection are inspired by mythology, folklore, antiquity and appeal to a wide selection of customers across generations & genders.
Through experimentation, trial and error, Elena has developed a technique and process which has allowed her to find her jewelry voice. Working with paper she is able to translate imagery from an infinite number of sources into wearable art. By combining ephemera, resin, metals, cord, pearls, semi-precious stones, and vintage elements she has a perspective that has been welcome in the craft and artisan community.
Elena is a native New Yorker hailing from the UWS. After attending middle school and high school in Rochester, NY, a stint as a professional ballerina, she moved back to NYC to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology. As a child, Elena was a professional actress and model. Now she much prefers being behind the scenes, creating jewelry and working on the display for all of Folkloric’s markets.
Currently, Elena resides in Brooklyn with her husband, son, daughter, dog, and two cats.
