Heather Duris is a painter and jewelry artist. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from the University of Kansas with a Minor in Art History. Heather has participated in local art shows with her abstract oil paintings, and also works on commission.
Heather finds inspiration in the beauty of the prairie and in the stories that take place here. One of her favorite quotes is from Parra-Wa-Samen (Ten Bears), Yamparika Comanche: “I was born upon the prairie, where the wind blew free and there was nothing to break the light of the sun”.
In 2014, Heather purchased a jewelry business and began making hand-stamped personalized jewelry and some bead work. She incorporates a touch of whimsy in her stamped jewelry with fun quotes and playful imagery. She enjoys doing custom work as well as repairing jewelry. Most of her jewelry work is done in sterling silver, copper, pewter, and stainless steel. She lives in Lawrence with her husband, two daughters and her lovable English Setter.
