Creating is good for my soul. I have always enjoyed the process of using my hands and creativity to make something. Learning how it is done and adding my own touch to the creation is so exciting. The process I most use to create my pieces is slab building. The clay is rolled flat like pie crust. Then I cut out shapes either freehand or using various templates. Some pieces are embossed with rubber stamps and found objects to add texture. This allows the later glaze application to pool around the edges for added depth and detail. The pieces are held together by roughing up the edges and joined by adding water and then pressed together. The clay is fired for the first time, decorated and glazed and then fired a second time. It is always a thrill to see what comes out of the kiln.
